FORCE OF EVIL reunites BODY AND SOUL writer Abraham Polonsky (in his first directing role) with star John Garfield in this noir about the numbers rackets crime, and the inevitable punishment that follows. Joe Morse (Garfield) is a New York lawyer with a mobster client who wants to gain control of all the numbers rackets in town to skew the odds in the mobs favor. This also means absorbing all the smaller rackets around the city, including one run by Joe's older brother. With his brother now involved in the fold, Joe must decide between family, his ethics, and his well-being to escape the perilous situation he finds himself in. This sharply filmed noir is noteworthy for its beautiful shot composition, thrilling plot, and poetic dialogue. FORCE OF EVIL was added to the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 1994 as being as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

Kyle Cubr will introduce the film and lead a discussion about it following the screening.
