Transistor Radio for the week of October 21-27, 2015
This week on In Store: Selections From Transistor’s Live Performance Archive, host Jon Monteverde features a December 2013 live recording from Chicago band The Astronomer, fronted by Charles Kim. The Chicago Reader said Kim’s “delicate art-pop songs … have a distinctly otherworldly feel despite their occasional rootsiness.”
On Depth of Field, Danielle Echols talks to Chicago bluesman Calvin Conway, whose new record comes out the last day of October; it will be called ‘Dark Horse Deluxe.’ Calvin talks about the album, his musical journey, and the legendary music and musicians that influence his sound, and performs three songs live.
This week on Sideshow, Bloodshot Scott brings his series featuring local luminaries Bloodshot Records to a close, showcasing the label at its current 20-year mark. Spotlighting favorites from the past decade, Bloodshot Scott illuminates the unique strengths of this stalwart label, with an optimistic nod toward its creative future.
And as always, Andy Miles kicks things off with 15 Songs. This week he has new music from Deerhunter, Bilal, Ratatat, Julia Holter and Lana Del Rey, plus archival stuff from Aretha Franklin and Sufjan Stevens.
We hope you’ll have a listen.
