Transistor Radio for the week of June 10-16, 2015
This week on In Store: Selections From Transistor’s Live Performance Archive, host Jon Monteverde features a 2013 recording – the public performance debut – of Steven Fletcher’s Frankenstein Earphone Radio. Chicago experimental electronica musician-producer Marsden Giolas contributes three original pieces to Bring Your Own Beat; he’ll be performing at Transistor Friday night, June 12. On Interlopin’ DJ Tashtego dusts off his 128 kbps rips of his favorite songs from middle school to create a two-part time capsule of his youth, discovering that the songs are still awesome; this week it’s part two and it has all the bittersweetness of middle school in a mere 97 minutes. Gems of the Week returns after a brief hiatus with a fresh mix of dubstep, glitchop, reggae and downtempo, and don’t miss the weekly all-vinyl set served up by Lechstafari on Blame It On The Boogie: Deep & Dirty Disco, Funk & Soul. Also this week DJ Bloodshot Scott digs deep into the archive to present a mix of 1950s rock ‘n’ roll rebels on Sideshow and Stereo Hysteria’s artist of the month is Chicago’s own Dan Vapid; tune in to hear host Charlie Crane interview Dan and spin tracks from Screeching Weasel, The Riverdales, The Methadones and more. And as always, Andy Miles kicks things off with 15 Songs with music this week from Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Gorillaz, Tori Amos, Toro y Moi and more. We hope you’ll have a listen.
